Final Station & An Encounter
2016, performance project
I wrote, produced and directed two performances in collaboration with a dancer(SuJin Kim). The opening performance(Final Station) and the closing performance(An Encounter) were shown along with three short films I curated. It was exhibited at Emu Art Space on Nov 18, 2016.
(1) Final Station
This lecture performance explores the meaning of human existence and inescapable solitude by combining body movement and a poem. It’s about recognising the finitude of our lives. And at the same time, it’s an attempt to subvert the established ‘frame’ which has conventionally been given to the female body.
몸의 움직임과 시를 결합하여, 인간 실존의 의미와 피할 수 없는 고독을 탐구하는 렉처 퍼포먼스. 이는 유한함에 대한 자각을 보여주는 동시에, 관습적으로 여성의 몸에 부여되어 온 기존의 어떤 ‘틀’을 전복하려는 시도이기도 하다.
(2) An Encounter
How often do you observe your own body? And how often do you feel the presence of your own body? The dancer takes time to look into her own body by shining a flashlight on it. When she moves her body and scrutinises every detail of it by following the clock ticking, audiences also begin to feel the presence of their own body.
우리는 얼마나 자주 스스로의 몸을 관찰하는가? 그리고 얼마나 자주 자기 몸의 존재를 자각하는가? 무용수는 손전등의 불빛을 자신의 몸에 비추며, 자기 몸을 살펴보는 시간을 가진다. 그녀가 시계 초침 소리를 따라 몸을 움직이며 몸 구석구석을 세심히 살피는 동안, 관객들 역시 자기 몸의 존재를 느끼기 시작한다.
